Our Guiding Ethical Principles

We believe that everyone is OK just like they are today.  Each of us is unique and what is normal for one may not be normal for another.  The key is that we are all normal for us.  It denies human uniqueness to place one person’s definition of normal onto another.  There are emotional benefits in assessing how you are doing and living while considering manageable changes that might improve your well-being and peace of mind.  Just as we can all improve our physical fitness, we strongly believe all of us can improve our mental fitness which improves our daily well-being.  We are here to help you find the unique answers to improve your mental fitness.

Our View on the Nature of Disorders

Labels we place on ourselves and others can become limits to personal well-being.  Within the business side of mental health, labels (the assignment of mental health “disorders”) are used by insurance companies to justify paying for services to therapists, psychiatrists, and other mental health providers and facilities.  Unfortunately, many people experiencing life challenges adopt these labels, research them, begin to carry them around like a heavy back pack, and live them out in their daily lives.  Does if feel like you’re always looking for and expecting your list of symptoms to show up?  We do not believe anyone will ever be inside your skin and mind with you.  It just means that you know for you better than anyone else.  If that’s true, why would you want to carry around someone else’s label?

What the People of Mental Fitness Counseling Love about Being Counselors and Therapists

When we watch a sunrise or sunset, or watch an iris bloom in the spring, we are always in awe of the miracle that is nature.  When we see fellow human beings change their lives and “bloom” in their fullness and beauty, it touches us in the depths of our souls.  We never feel responsible for someone else’s growth and improvement because we believe you do that for yourself, yet we are always inspired and enriched by the profound gifts you are able give yourself.  Sharing in your growth makes us better people and improves our lives.  When you grow and improve yourself, lives around you grow and improve.  Sharing this experience with others is the profound experience of our lives.  This is why we do this work.
